Yes, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) has made the licensing process much more user friendly.)
A breakfast of bagels, fruit and coffee will be served. This is a free event. This is not an open house but rather an informative event that begins at 9:00am and ends at 12:00pm. You are welcome to stay till 1:00pm to talk with individual licensing agencies.

What can I bring into the event?
Families and children are welcome. We have a craft table for children. We’re flexible.
Why is a foster care license important if I only want to adopt?
In Illinois, you need to be a foster parent to a child for 6 months before you and adopt him or her. Therefore, the very first step in becoming a foster parent OR adopting from foster care is to obtain a foster care license. There is also a great need for people to be foster parents to children who may return home.
How many children are available for aodption in Illinois?
In Illinois there are approximately 17,000 children in foster care and 54% of them will never return home. There is a need of permanency for all of these children, adoption is just one form of permanency. The children available for adoption are all ages, stages and ethnicities.
Does it cost anything?
No! Adoption from foster care is without cost. Also, becoming a foster parent is without cost. And our event is without cost too.
