Kerry Miller has been named the 2019 Let It Be Us Volunteer of the Year, earning the coveted McAndews Award, named after it’s first recipient, Jennifer McAndrews. Kerry Miller is the Let It Be Us Treasurer, Executive Founding Board Member, and tireless volunteer with Let It Be Us. Please enjoy the speech given in Kerry’s honor by Let It Be Us Board Chair, Bob Noonan, as follows:
“Giving children a better chance at life through foster care and adoption – this is the foundational pillar of LIBU, our mission, and of this award. Kerry has dedicated countless hours to support our important mission and has truly championed our mission from day one.
Let me tell you a little bit about this amazing woman. She originally signed on to become a Founding Board Member when Susan McConnell created the concept of Let It Be Us. She served as one of our board members since the beginning of our organization, as Treasurer, our first Secretary, and has helped to guide and direct Let It Be Us finances for the five years of growth we have seen. During this time she has put in countless hours tracking and driving our budget process, our expenses, our payroll, and our overall back office systems. Not a small feat and truly she has been the foundation of our growth. Over the past give years she has personally jumped in and helped with every major event we have planned, including five golf outings, five 5K Runs, four Super Bowl parties and numerous other events. Kerry has done it all, she has been a rock inside LIBU that allowed us the oversight that has directed hundreds of thousands of dollars into our programs to find homes for and support children living in Illinois foster care. Beyond directing and managing the LIBU financial systems, Kerry is one that is always so active in our board meetings, making sure we are sticking to our mission and budget, with laser focus on always doing the right thing. And of course Kerry is very passionate about our mission, has a huge heart, and really cares deeply for the children who don’t have a voice. She walks the talk as well, Kerry and Steve (her husband) have welcomed children into their home through the Safe Families Program. So Kerry, tonight we thank you for all you have done for the children in care. And because you truly personify this award, we are so proud to call you team member, coach, friend, and ambassador because you have helped thousands of kids in care.”
