Let It Be Us is recruiting 7 new Mentors to join our Mentorship Program which will serve our newly adopted foster care group home in Waukegan, Illinois. Mentors will attend our highly specialized and successful training program and will then be paired with a boy – aged 13 – 17 – addressing educational goals, life goals, and every obstacle that stands in the way. These children often need IEP advocacy, new glasses, school supplies, and our time. In short, together with our supportive team, you will arm these children with that they need so that they can compete on a level playing field with those who have the functional support of parents and families.
The time commitment includes an initial 8 hours (broken up into 4 sessions) of specialized training followed by 2 hours of continuing training per month. We ask that you commit 2 hours per week to the child to whom you are assigned. Further, we ask that you commit to this program for at least 1 year. Your investment is significant – and your reward is even more so.
If you are interested in working with this program, learn more and complete our application here. (Note that all Let It Be Us Mentors will need to pass a background check.) Questions? Contact Susan McConnell at susanmcconnell @ letitbeus.org.
